Ferndale police: Tips lead to robbery suspect's arrest

Ray Slayton had been wanted since March for robbery at doctor's office

DETROIT – Ferndale police say tips from the public led to the arrest of a man who was wanted in connection with a robbery at a doctor's office.

Police had been looking for 47-year-old Ray Slayton in connection with the March 24 incident at the office on Livernois Avenue. He's accused of using a pistol to threaten a receptionist and a doctor for money, but he only got away with a blank prescription pad, police said.

Police said Slayton was arrested early Sunday morning at the MNM motel off 8 Mile Road near Groesbeck Highaway. He had changed his appearance by shaving his head and facial hair, police said.

Police also said Slayton has outstanding warrants for possession of a controlled substance and larceny.

New charges are expected to be issued for the incident at the doctor's office sometime this week.
