FERNDALE, Mich. -

Ferndale police are looking for the man who robbed a woman at knifepoint Monday evening as she walked home, just a block from the intersection of 9 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue, crowded with vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Ferndale police detective William Wilson said the 52-year-old woman told them she was walking home from the library in the area of Paxton and Vester streets when a man came up behind her.

"He stuck a knife in her back and demanded money from her. He threatened to cut her if she didn't comply and give him money. Eventually she did give the person some money and he took off running," Wilson said.

The woman  was unharmed.

The victim said the robber was a black man who was wearing all black – with a parka type jacket with a hood wrapped tightly around his face.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to a conviction in the case. Tips can be called in to Ferndale police at 248-541-3650 or Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAKUP.
