DETROIT -

A man convicted of attacking Steve Utash has been sentenced to three years of probation, with the first six months served in jail.

Judge James Callahan handed down the punishment Thursday to 19-year-old Latrez Cummings. Callahan sentenced Cummings under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act, which mean that if Cummings completes his probation without another conviction, his record will be wiped clean.

Cummings and four others pleaded guilty to assaulting Steve Utash, who was in a coma for days after the April 2 attack.
