WATERFORD, Mich. -

A man is recovering in the hospital after firefighters had to use the jaws of life to rescue him from a car accident.

Waterford Police and Fire responded to Hatchery Road near Driftwood around 10:30 Saturday night after OnStar alerted them of an airbag deployment. When they arrived, the vehicle was found lying on the passenger side in a wooded area.

Firefighters first stabilized the car with ropes and chains so it would not rollover. They then used the jaws of life to cut the driver out of the car.

The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
