FireKeepers Casino Hotel says credit card info was hacked; approximately 85,000 affected

FireKeepers offering free credit monitoring, ID protection services to affected customers

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – FireKeepers Casino Hotel says a recent hack into its computer systems may have compromised approximately 85,000 patrons' credit and debit card information.

"FireKeepers takes protecting the data in its systems seriously, and has undertaken an aggressive response, including implementing security upgrades, and providing information and support to anyone who may have been affected," the casino said in an issued statement on Friday.
The cards were used between Sept.7, 2014, and April 25, 2015 for food, beverage and retail purchases. Stolen information may include card number, cardholder name, verification code, and/or the card's expiration date.

Patron information contained in the Red Hot Rewards Club database was not affected and remains secure. Cards used for hotel reservations, cash advances and ATM transactions, which are processed through separate systems, also were not affected. The security compromise has been contained and payment cards have been processed securely since April 26, 2015.

Hackers also hit server that had Social Security, health benefit information

During the course of the investigation in May, FireKeepers also determined that there may have been unauthorized access to a file storage server, which contained the personal information of certain customers, employees and their dependents. This data includes Social Security numbers and/or driver's license numbers.

Health benefit selection and medical billing information of current and former employees and their dependents were also stored on this file server.  Neither FireKeepers nor its forensic investigators have found any evidence of unauthorized access or misuse of the personal information.

Potentially affected individuals will be receiving letters with information and resources and are encouraged to call (855) 861-4021 with any questions.
