The show's title refers to the "first block" of a TV show – the segment you see before the first commercial break, where the most important stories go.  Local 4's creative programming team decided to make each and every story worthy of being a first block story, and that's how the concept was born.  Extraordinary stories told by Local 4 anchors and reporters, in a provocative and compelling new way.

Local 4 has been a longstanding supporter of local programming, producing shows like America's Thanksgiving Parade; The Fireworks; The Auto Show; Arts, Beats and Eats and Dateline Detroit.  First Block is another in a series of WDIV-TV Local 4's community efforts.
