Fisher mansion to become spiritual center

DETROIT – It should appear under the definition of mansion in the dictionary -- the Fisher mansion in Palmer Woods.

Built in 1927 for an auto baron from the Fisher family, it's got 16,000 square feet of living space, not including the pool house and the eight-car garage. It's got leaded windows, limestone and a ball room.

The home just sold for $1.6 million and the buyer has been anonymous until now. Brad Lamm wrote the check for the home. He's an addiction specialist who has offices in both New York City and Los Angeles. He said he plans on making the home his primary residence and that's not all. According to a statement from his company, Breath Inc., he wants to make it a retreat, or as they call it, a Breathe Life Healing Center, which according to the company is "a spiritual retreat that provides a peaceful living environment for those looking to find respite and lead happier, healthier lives."

In addition to the mansion, Breathe Inc. has purchased commercial property on 7 Mile Road, where it will build an addiction treatment center.

Neighbors in Palmer Woods said they take the history and preservation of the community very seriously and they have a lot of questions for Lamm.

"At this point I'm really confused. So, what we're doing is we're going to take a close look at the zoning ordinances for Palmer Woods and we're also going to learn a little bit, or a lot more, about what the healing centers are all about and then find out where we are," said Craig Vanderburg, the president of the Palmer Woods Association.

A quick call to the city shows that Lamm hasn't requested any permits or zoning changes yet.
