Flasher targets woman in Ferndale driveway

Ferndale neighborhood on alert after man approaches woman in her driveway, exposes himself

FERNDALE, Mich. – A flasher is in on the loose in Ferndale.

"It is disgusting and especially around children," said Ferndale resident Betty Gwistalla

The neighborhood is on alert after a man approached a woman in her driveway. Police say the woman was in her car when the man approached her and exposed himself.

Frightened, the woman honked her horn and started screaming. The man took off running.

Ferndale police say the woman did everything right.

"Something like this you would want to bring attention to yourself and honking the horn is an excellent way to do that and call the police immediately," said Lt. Gary Whiting.

The incident happened on the corner of Romeo and Orchard in the middle of the afternoon, right next to a school.

"It really bothers me for the kids you know. I think adults can handle it better, it's shocking. But, for the kids that is what upsets me," said Gwistalla.

Police say they are looking for a man now known as the Ferndale flasher.

The suspect description released by police is:

  • A white man
  • 5 feet 10 inches tall
  • 155 pounds
  • Dark hair, dark eyes
  • Mustache and stubble on his face
  • May possibly be of Italian decent
