Fog weighs down Thanksgiving travel

DETROIT – The nation's air system is straining under the weight of a crush of holiday travelers, coupled with dense fog blanketing much of the nation's midsection.

United Continental said travelers may experience flight delays in Chicago, Detroit, Toronto and Houston because of fog.

Detroit's Metro Airport is seeing delays of up to 2 hours on some Southwest flights, according to Local 4 crews at the airport. 

We will see gradual improvement is seen as the day progresses. San Francisco departures may be delayed because of low clouds and rain.

The day before Thanksgiving typically ranks as one of the heaviest travel days of the year.
