“Ford House is excited to host an evening just for the grown-ups,” said Kathleen Mullins, president of Ford House. “So schedule that baby-sitter and grab your friends and loved-ones for this one-night-only event. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Winter Wonderland

The new "After Hours" event is part of Ford House's annual Winter Wonderland holiday lights celebration. Four dates remain for the family-friendly outing this year: Dec. 9-10 and Dec. 16-17, from 5-8 p.m.

Winter Wonderland is a mile-long walk through beautifully lit trees and buildings and past fire pits, hot cocoa, mulled wine and storytelling.

The event also includes the Trim-A-Tree competition, featuring about 20 creatively decorated trees by local elementary schools where the public can vote on which was best decorated; the winning school will receive a donation to their art program. In January, the trees will be donated to the Greening of Detroit.

Also new this year is the opening of the Gate Lodge Garage for visitors to enjoy and mingle with Santa.

Tickets for Winter Wonderland are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Children 2 and under are free. Add on an optional strolling house tour to see the Fords’ home all gorgeously decorated for the holidays for $10 more.

Holiday Tours

Along with Winter Wonderland, visitors are encouraged to come in from the cold and enjoy a Ford House Holiday Tour, which offers a unique peek into the Fords’ home during the holiday season.

The holiday décor takes center stage on the guided tour as stories of Christmas traditions and treasured family moments spent together at the Estate are shared. Fourteen full-size Christmas trees, over 2,500 ornaments, and 100 hours of meticulous decorating, make the inside of Ford House warmer and cozier than ever. After the tour, the Santa’s Workshop will be open for families to play a game or produce arts and crafts.

Visitors can check www.fordhouse.org for Holiday Tour hours. Tours are $12 for adults, $11 for seniors, $8 for children ages six to twelve, and free for children five and under. Santa’s Workshop is open Tuesday through Sunday and visiting the Workshop is included with regular admission.

Visitors can round out their experience with lunch or dinner in the Cotswold Café, where Executive Chef David Wood has prepared a festive menu of entrees, sandwiches, soups, and salads for all to enjoy. Please check www.fordhouse.org for lunch and dinner hours at the Cotswold Café.
