DETROIT - Although there will be some breaks in the cloud cover tonight, I think mostly cloudy skies will be more the rule than the exception.
Slight chance for a shower, but most of the area should remain dry. Lows in the upper 50s.

There's a chance for some showers Thursday, especially in the morning, as an upper level disturbance swings across southern Michigan. Showers will gradually diminish through the afternoon, and we should see at least partial sun start to build in. Highs only in the low 70s, with a northwest wind at 8 to 13 mph. By the way, you've heard me reference "upper level disturbances" on many occasions, so I thought that you'd be interested to know that the actual scientific name for these things is "vorticity maximum." I suppose I could write about a strong vorticity maximum, but "upper level disturbance" is a little more reader-friendly. Now you know.
Becoming mostly clear Thursday night, with lows in the mid 50s.
Sunny and spectacular on the 4th of July, with highs in the mid 70s. Clear with comfortable sleeping weather again on Friday night, as lows drop into the mid to upper 50s.
By the way, just a quick word to be very careful if you plan on handling any fireworks yourself. It seems as if every year my newsroom gets a story about somebody getting fingers blown off or severe facial injuries due to either mishandling fireworks, handling them while drunk, or using cheap fireworks that malfunctioned when lit. If you'll be putting on your own little show, please do it responsibly! Better to be safe than sorry.
Mostly sunny on Saturday, with highs approaching 80 degrees. Mostly clear Saturday night, with lows in the low 60s.
Partly cloudy and starting to get more humid on Sunday. There is the chance for a late afternoon scattered thunderstorm, but this is far from certain. If we can hold this rain off until Sunday night, then I believe this will be our seventh consecutive nice weekend...I don't ever remember a stretch like this! Highs in the mid 80s.
Thunderstorm chances increase Sunday night into Monday, with lows Sunday night in the upper 60s, and highs Monday in the mid 80s.
