Forecast: The calm before the warm in metro Detroit

But changes are on the way early next week

DETROIT – Saturday's shaping up to be a great day for outdoor activities, with at least partial sunshine and afternoon highs pushing 70 degrees!

South wind at 8 to 13 miles per hour. Note: If the wind takes on a slightly more eastward component, then those of you near the big lakes could stay in the low 60s for highs, it's a close call with the wind direction. Showers develop Saturday night, hopefully late enough to keep things dry for our Saturday evening plans. Mild, with lows in the low to mid 50s.

Sunday forecast:

Scattered showers Sunday, with a slight chance for a peek of sun during the afternoon (best chance for this is south of Detroit). It won't rain all day, so my suggestion is to watch the radar on our FREE Local4Casters weather app (just go to the app store and search under WDIV, it's right there).

Since I expect highs near 70, you can take advantage of any dry periods and enjoy that part of the day. And don't forget to follow me on Twitter at @PaulGrossLocal4. I'll tweet updates if anything meaningful is going on that you need to know about. Rain develops later Sunday night, with lows in the low 50s.

Monday forecast:

Rain is likely on Monday with heavy downpours possible, then mixing with some wet snow by late afternoon or early evening. Temps remain in the low 50s all day long, which is well above freezing, so any wet snow we get shouldn't accumulate. The greater concern is the amount of rain we'll get Sunday into Monday. We could easily get between one and two inches of rain (best chance is north of I-69), which could potentially cause some flood problems.

I'll keep you posted on these developments and, again, remember that you can follow me on Twitter at @PaulGrossLocal4 for quick updates.

Wet snow ends Monday night, with lows plummeting into the mid 20s. There could potentially be patches of ice Tuesday morning as puddles from Monday's rain freeze overnight.

Partly cloudy Tuesday and quite cold for mid-April. Highs only in the upper 30s. Becoming mostly clear Tuesday night, with lows again crashing into the mid 20s.

Partly cloudy both Wednesday and Thursday, with highs in the low 40s on Wednesday and near 50 on Thursday.
