DETROIT – Sexual assault charges were reinstated against former Tigers pitcher Evan Reed in a hearing Friday morning.
Reed's attorney said he will appeal the decision to reinstate the charges.
In March, Reed was accused of sexually assaulting a 45-year-old woman inside a room at the MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit.
The woman told police she met Reed at the 5th Avenue bar in Royal Oak.
She doesn't remember leaving the bar, but woke up with Reed in the hotel room the next morning where both were not clothed.
After she saw evidence on the bed sheets that she had been assaulted, she went to St. Joseph's Hospital to complete a rape kit. She then went to the police on April 2.
Reed maintains his innocence and insists the sex was consensual.
When he found out about the charges, he met with his lawyers and took a polygraph test and passed.
In August, Wayne Circuit Judge Kenneth King heard testimony from the victim, witnesses, and investigators. He dismissed the third-degree sexual assault charges against Reed.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy filed an appeal in September.
