Seniors worried about identity theft can get rid of their documents for free.

The Macomb County Office of Senior Services is holding a paper shredding and medication disposal event Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Freedom Hill County Park.

Macomb county residents aged 60 or older can drop off  four two-by-one foot boxes of paper and it will be shredded for free.   The documents will be shredded on location by Absolute Shreds.  Volunteers will be on hand at the park to help remove boxes from cars.

Seniors can also drop off unwanted or expired prescription medications including narcotics.  Medications must be removed from bottles and put in clear plastic bags. Controlled substances such as narcotic painkillers and stimulants must be in a separate bag.

The event is Thursday October 24 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Freedom Hill County Park located at  14900 Metropolitan Parkway in Sterling Heights.
