Friendly deer 'Rudy' trapped on Rackham golf course in Huntington Woods

DNR says deer can't be moved off course

HUNTINGTON WOODS, Mich. – Like many other golf courses, Rackham in Huntington Woods has seen more activity than usual this winter due to the unusually warm weather.

But one visitor seems to now be living, or trapped, on the course.

A deer stuck on Rackham Golf Course was first spotted by neighbors and golfers in October. They don't know how he got in, but because the course is completely fenced in, he can't get out.

Neighbors nicknamed the deer Rudy. He's shown no signs of aggression toward golfers, but while most deer hide during daylight hours, he clearly isn't concerned about mingling with humans.

The city has put up signs to warn people to stop feeding the deer. While delivering snacks for Rudy is well-intentioned, he needs to start acting like a deer, officials said. Putting out dinner every night isn't helping.

As long as Rudy plays nice with the humans, the DNR said he can't be caught and moved back into the woods.
