Funeral held for Inkster toddler killed on porch

Funeral for KaMiya Gross held Saturday at church in Inkster

INKSTER, Mich. - Mourners sang "Happy Birthday" at the funeral of a Detroit-area toddler who was killed on her porch and would have turned 3 on the day of her burial.

KaMiya Gross was shot in the head in Inkster on July 1. State police say she was intentionally killed in front of her father, who was shot and wounded. Two people have been charged with first-degree murder.

KaMiya's funeral was held Saturday at a church in Inkster before burial at a cemetery in Wayne.

Police officers are among the mourners. Mayor Hillard Hampton told the congregants that the community "shall come together" to deal with violence in Inkster.

Police Chief Hilton Napoleon resigned, partly because of KaMiya's death. He says the department needs more money.
