Game 1 notes: Red Wings 1, Bruins 0

Here are notes from Game 1 between the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins. The Red Wings won 1-0 to take a 1-0 lead in the series. 

3rd period:

:30 -- Brad Marchand had a good chance on a turnover at the Red Wings blueline, but Howard made a nice kick save. 

2:40 -- Darren Helm nearly made it 1-0 on a rebound but Rask sprawled out to make a pad save, robbing Helm on one of the better chances of the game at this point. 

5:17 -- The Bruins go on their first power play of the game after Tatar got called for interference. Howard made a couple big saves in the first minute of the penalty kill. 

7:17 -- The Red Wings killed off the penalty. Shots are even at 21. 

12:53 -- Shots are even at 22. Howard has come up big for Detroit with some highlight saves. 

15:30 -- Tatar tried to jam one in on a rap-around but Rask was there to make the save. That was followed by a Milan Lucic tip at the other end that somehow stayed out. 

16:59 -- Pavel Datsyuk makes it 1-0 with a nifty shot. He had reached back for the puck near center ice in an amazing effort to pull the puck up and break into the Boston zone, where he wristed glove side past Rask. 

2nd period:

6:16 -- Still no scoring and limited scoring chances for both teams. Shots are 12-11 in favor of Boston. 

7:00 -- The Red Wings had two great chances to score -- 1st from Pavel Datsyuk and then from Justin Abdelkader. Both were in tight but couldn't not burry the puck. 

7:58 -- Detroit continues to keep the pressure in the Boston zone. Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Tatar and Reilly Sheahan nearly connected for a goal. 

9:15 -- Darren Helm nearly fooled Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask with a soft shot from the top of the right circle. The puck hit something on the way to Rask, who kicked it and held on with his glove. 

10:30 -- Shots are 14-12 in favor of Detroit. 

11:00 -- Boston's Torey Krug gets a good chance from the point but Jimmy Howard turned it away. The Bruins couldn't grab the rebound. Then a bouncing puck nearly got by Howard, but he turned and kicked it away before it could bounce in. 

15:58 -- Red Wings go on the power play again after Krug gets 2 minutes for holding Johan Franzen.

17:58 -- Boston kills off the penalty with limited threat from the Red Wings. Detroit couldn't get much going in the offensive zone. 

The teams remain scoreless after 40 minutes of play. Shots are 16-16.

1st period: 

7:50 -- Shots are even at 4-4

10:12 -- Detroit leads in shots with 7 to Boston's 5

13:20 -- Red Wings continue to have the edge in shots, 9-7. 

16:08 -- Zdeno Chara gets 2 minutes for boarding Detroit's Brendan Smith. Red Wings go on first power play of game. 

18:08 -- Bruins kill off Chara's boarding penalty.

Period ends scoreless. Shots are 11-9 in favor of Detroit. Boston outhit Detroit 17-11 in the 1st period. Scoring chances are 5-4 in favor of the Red Wings.
