Garden City manager removed from office

Garden City Council suspends city manager before removal

GARDEN CITY, Mich. – Many residents of Garden City are asking why their City Manager, Darwin McClary, is being removed from office.

Local 4 obtained a resolution that was passed at last Monday's City Council meeting that suspended the City Manager for 28 days.  After the suspension, he would be removed from office.

Four council members voted in favor of the resolution. The mayor and and another council member voted against it.

The reason for the action cited in the resolution was a lack of confidence, but it did not go into detail.

No council members were commenting on Wednesday.  The mayor did not return calls.

The city's police chief is now the acting city manager, and he said no one is commenting because it is a personnel matter.  The police chief did say there was no criminal investigation.
