Gary Brown's name comes up in talks about next Detroit police chief

DETROIT – The search for Detroit's new police chief could lead to a familiar face taking the job.

City Councilman Gary Brown is being talked about as a possible candidate.

Brown has served before with the Police Department and is currently the chairperson of the council's Public Health and Safety Standing Committee.

Brown's spokesman, Bryan Peckenpaugh, said Brown was "open to all future opportunities to forward the agenda of improving public safety. He is not lobbying to be chief."

Detroit is in need of a new police chief after Ralph Godbee resigned in October after a female subordinate revealed the two had been in a sexual relationship.

Chester Logan is serving as interim police chief.
