Gas prices expected to peak this weekend

DETROIT – Drivers can expect to pay more at the pump this Memorial Day weekend.

Experts say gas prices should peak for 2015 at about $2.75 per gallon in the next several days, then drivers should see slight declines through the summer, barring any major refining incident, hurricane, or other disrupting factor.

That means prices at the pump this weekend should be the highest prices of the year.

According to triple A, gasoline was averaging $2.72 a gallon nationally Wednesday. That's six cents higher than last week and 33 cents more than a month ago.

Experts recommend that anyone travelling out of town this weekend buy gas on Thursday, which is expected to be the cheapest remaining day until the weekend is over.
