General Motors extends the deadline for compensation program

Faulty ignition-switch claims will now be accepted through January

DETROIT – General Motors is extending the deadline for its faulty ignition-switch compensation program.

On Sunday, the program's administrator, Kenneth Feinberg, announced that claims will now be accepted through January 31st, 2015. The extension was granted to make sure that every owner is reached, including those that own older cars with the defective switches.

The automaker established the fund to compensate victims of the faulty ignition switch.

The program began accepting claims on August 1st, and, as of November 7th, has received 1,851 claims for deaths and serious injuries.
