DETROIT – It's only March and the gloves are already off in what is going to be the political race to watch is heating up.
Attack ads are already flying between the groups supporting Terri Lynn Land and Gary Peters as they battle to replace Sen. Carl Levin.
"I think that this race will probably suck up all the oxygen in the room, and it will probably be a very expensive race, and expect to see a lot of ads and a lot of polling," said political strategist Dennis Darnoi.
Americans for Prosperity is behind an anti-Peters ad that's been in heavy rotation, hammering Peters on his pro Obamacare vote -- a vote that will hunt him and Democrats across the country this go-around.
The insurance cancellations coupled with the horrible roll out of the government website aren't playing well in the public.
Land is in the politically fortunate spot of really not having any record to attack. Although that didn't stop Michigan Democrats from rolling out the video where she's critical of the auto bailout.
"This is an important race, not just here, but nationally," Darnio said. "It's part of the Democrat's national strategy, so the fact that is Peters is consistently down in the polls, not a surprise at all."
