DETROIT – General Motors is recalling 69,633 Chevy Malibu and Pontiac G6 models in the U.S. because the vehicles may suffer from a loss of electric power steering assist that could happen at any time while driving.
If the power steering assist is lost, drivers have a harder time steering the vehicles at low speeds.

GM is aware of one crash, but no injuries, related to this issue.
The recall covers certain Chevy Malibu, Malibu Maxx and Pontiac G6 cars with power steering in the 2006 and 2007 models.
Dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly in affected models.
The total recall population, including those from Canada and Mexico, is 81,123.
This recall is an expansion of the 2014 recall that included about 1.3 million cars.
