Governor Rick Snyder to discuss criminal justice reforms

Michigan governor slated to lay out proposals for reforming the system

DETROIT – Governor Rick Snyder is set to deliver a special message on Monday.

In the much-anticipated speech, he will lay out new proposals for reform in the criminal justice system. The propositions will range from reducing sentences for certain crimes to providing better rehabilitation for ex-convicts. The announcement will begin at 3 p.m. at Goodwill Industries in Detroit.

The non-profit currently works with ex-convicts, providing them with the skills and resources they need to successfully reintegrate back into the community.

The special message also comes as the Governor announced a cabinet change on Friday.

Warden Heidi Washington will replace Dan Heyns as the director of the Michigan Department of corrections. The change will go into effect on July 1st, 2015.
