Fire burns Custom Stone Works on Plymouth Road in Livonia

Chief says fire was noticed about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday

LIVONIA, Mich. – A stretch of Plymouth Road was closed Wednesday morning in Livonia while firefighters battled a commercial building fire.

The road is back open between Farmington and Hubbard roads.

Livonia Fire Chief Shadd Whitehead said the fire at Custom Stone Works was noticed about 4:45 a.m.

"It's a little bit frustrating because when we get here, at that time of the morning there's not a lot of people on the road, so the fire had a pretty good head start on us, which forced us into really defensive operations," Whitehead said.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the front of the building, where offices are.

The product is kept in the back of the building. According to the company's website, it specializes in granite, limestone and cast stone.

No injuries were reported.
