Gunman ambushes, kills Redford Township woman in NW Detroit

Police say woman, boyfriend were outside having drinks when shooter approached, opened fire

DETROIT – The focus of the crime scene is a silver car parked near the curb at Edinborough Road and Vassar Drive on Detroit's northwest side.

The glass is shattered with bullet holes in the windshield after a 24-year-old Redford Township woman was killed in the street. She was shot with an assault rifle on Friday morning.

Detroit police said the woman and her 27-year-old boyfriend were outside the car having some drinks about 1 a.m. when two men approached them on foot. The men fired shot after shot, as the casing markers show.

The 27-year-old man is hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Was this couple targeted or was this a random killing? Either way, Detroit police want the killers off the street.

Police first believed multiple weapons were used in this shooting. However, police say evidence shows only an assault rifle was used.
