Handgun, 3 shot guns stolen from home

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 24-year-old Commerce Township man was arrested Sunday after he was found with a handgun registered to an Oakland County police officer.

Police say officers were called to the 3600 block of Stoneridge Court by reports of family trouble. The homeowners said that their 24-year-old son was a heroin addict and was banging on the front door holding a handgun. When police arrived, they found the man sitting in his car with the gun.

A LEIN check showed that the handgun was registered to an officer from another police department in Oakland County. Police went to the deputy's home and found that it had been broken into. The officer who lives at the home was out of state on vacation.

Authorities found police equipment, three shot guns and other weapons that were stolen from the home.

The suspect was held in the Oakland County Jail. Evidence from the search revealed that the suspect is responsible for other home invasions in the area. Those cases are still under investigation.
