HAMBURG TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Questions still remain as to what happened to a 43-year-old man who went missing Friday at a campground in Hamburg Township and then turned up dead just a day later.
Police said the man, whose name is not yet being released, was reported missing from the Brighton State Recreation Area.
Police, fire and DNR crews searched through the night for the man. His body was found Saturday afternoon in a wooded area of the recreation area near Bishop Lake.
"The man was found with significant trauma to his body and investigators were unable to readily make a determination as to the manner of death, except to eliminate death by natural causes and accidental death," Hamburg police said in a statement. "Due to the ongoing investigation, specific facts as to the nature of the man's injuries and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance are not being made public to protect the integrity of the investigation."
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
