Hazel Park 9-year-old boy hides in closet during home invasion; 2 arrested

Suspects charged with armed robbery, home invasion, possession of firearm

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – Two men have been arrested in connection with a home invasion in Hazel Park where a 9-year-old boy hid inside a bedroom closet before running from the home and alerting his neighbor about what was happening.

Monte Rowe, 22, and 34-year-old Clarence Wilson Jr. are now charged with armed robbery, first degree home invasion and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The alleged incident happened Sunday, April 28 at a home in the 1200 block of east Muir. That's when Wilson allegedly knocked on the door and told the person inside he was a friend of a relative. He reportedly asked about getting his car fixed before he left.

A short time later, police claim, Wilson returned with Rowe and forced their way into the home, made the adults inside lay on the ground and cover their heads with blankets and demanded money.

The 9-year-old who was inside hid in a closet before climbing out a bedroom window and running to a neighbor's house. The neighbor called police. When police arrived Rowe and Wilson were still inside the home.

Both suspects were quickly arrested.
