Hazmat at Warren courthouse turns out to be mixture of baby, foot powders

No one hurt but 37th District Court was closed for day on Monday

WARREN, Mich. – The suspicious substance that triggered the evacuation of the 37th District Court in Warren on Monday has turned out to be a mixture of baby and foot powders.

The courthouse on Common Road was evacuated at about 10 a.m. when an employee opened a letter that was filled with a white powder.

A hazmat team was called to the scene and four people were taken to a hospital as a precaution, but weren't treated for anything.

Warren Police Capt. Dave Hendrickson said the envelope was sent to the courthouse last week by mistake and was returned to the sender.

It showed up again Friday and was opened Monday in the court administrator's office.

The courthouse was closed for the rest of the day.
