Former Detroit Police chief Warren Evans ruled eligible for ballot

Residency challenge dismissed in court Friday

DETROIT – Former Wayne County Sheriff and former Detroit Police chief Warren Evans was ruled eligible to run for Wayne County Executive after his residency challenge was dismissed in court on Friday.

Evans, who is running for Wayne County Executive, was accused of not holding residency in the county long enough to qualify for the race.

A candidate must be resident for 30 days prior to registering.

Two complaints contesting Evans candidacy were filed. The most recent was filed Thursday by opponent Phil Cavanaugh. 

Evans and Cavanaugh are two of 11 candidates looking for the Democratic nomination in the August 5 primary vote.
