SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

A local Relay for Life team at the Utica Academy for International Studies is asking for help in raising $10,000 for the American Cancer Society in Shelby Township. The team consists of 21 members of the school's Key Club, which is a service-oriented group.
The Relay for Life event will be at River Bends Park from 10 a.m. May 17 to 10 a.m. May 18, but most of the fundraising takes place before that.

The team is holding car washes, bake sales, bottle drives, spaghetti dinners and competitions at the school. They are asking family, friends and the public to help them in reaching their goal by clicking on their team, the UAIS Key Club.

With less than three weeks until the event, the team has raised nearly $2,000. This year's team is led by Kourtnie Woodcox, who lost her grandmother to cancer a few years ago.
