Major Snow Storm

Motown's first major snow storm arrives Saturday night! It moves in from the west and southwest. The first flakes fall in the area's West and South Zones (Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, and Washtenaw Counties) by midnight or shortly afterward. Heavier bursts of snow are possible as early as dawn, Sunday.

Sunday will be snowy, windy and very hazardous. Dangers from heavy snow, gusty wind and cold will be everywhere nearly all day. If you do not need to be outdoors, indoors is the best place to be. Snuggling by the fireplace with a good book, a cup of hot chocolate, football and some good family stories is the best thing to do if you can.

Lions fans must plan for driving delays longer than 1 to 2 hours, especially after the game. Regions of heavy snow remain after 4pm ET. Spectators who do not live downtown may want to wait out the storm in the nearest sports bar or restaurant. Also, there are plenty of store up and down and near Woodward Avenue for holiday shopping. Just be careful walking on slippery sidewalks and crosswalks.

Snow total

Snow totals of 6 inches or more will be common: 6 to 8 inches are possible anywhere south of M-59/Hall Road; Pontiac southward, southern Oakland County and Lenawee, Monroe, Washtenaw and Wayne Counties (including the City Of Detroit).

4 to 6 inches will be common in Livingston County  and in neighborhoods north of M-59 into The Thumb.

Sunday temperatures will be near 30 degrees, but wind chills will be in the teens and 20s.

Snow showers linger Sunday night and Monday. If schools are open, please keep in mind that conditions will remain treacherous, especially on side streets and in parking lots. Monday

Tuesday will get another kick of arctic air. Sub-freezing conditions arrive with lows in the single digits at night and in the early morning and highs in the mid teens. Winds chills will be below zero Tuesday through Friday!
