INKSTER, Mich. - A recent round of sky-high water bills in Inkster has inspired one man to create a music video which has been posted on the YouTube website.
Water rates in Inkster are among the highest in the metro Detroit area. On top of that, some Inkster residents had been under-billed for their water usage.
When the city replaced old water meters, that problem was corrected, but the city is now recouping some of that lost money by back- billing customers.
Ivan Williams, who grew up in Inkster and still have family there, saw the problem and decided to produce a video with a song entitled "I Can't Pay My Water Bill."
"I heard of people's bills as high as $2,000 and $3,000. We decided to put this together and put it out there for people to see what we are going through and hopefully we can get some help," Williams said.
Williams produced the video. The song was created by Inkster-based musicians.
Inkster city treasurer mark Stuhldreher said he saw the video.
"I would describe it as political satire, humor," Stuhldreher said.
He added the city is not blind to the residents who are trying to deal with the sky-high water bills.
"We are working with the citizens to try to alleviate some of that financial sticker shock," Stuhldreher said.
Residents who are having trouble paying their water bills are asked to visit the Inkster city hall, where they might be able to work out a payment plan.
