DETROIT – A wild police chase unfolded Friday morning in Detroit that ended when a scrum of police rammed the suspect's car into the side of a building.
Southfield police said the suspect, a 39-year-old Detroit man, had been on their radar for weeks in connection with several car break-ins.
When an officer tried to stop him at about 7 a.m., the suspect assaulted the officer and took off.
Sky 4 was over chase for more than 20 minutes, as the suspect and police sped through neighborhoods on Detroit's west side. Sky 4 was able to help police keep track of the suspect and communicate with police on the ground.
At one point, the suspect swerved onto a sidewalk to avoid police. He also blew red lights, plowing through intersections and screeching around corners.
Police attempted more than once to block the suspect in, but the suspect was able to maneuver around.
Eventually, several police cars rammed the suspect's vehicle into the wall of a building on Norfolk Street near Livernois, ending the chase.
No one was hurt.
