Hike from the Heart 5K Walk to fight poverty takes place Sunday

Matrix Human Services says more than 300 walkers attended last year's event

DETROIT – Matrix Human Services says it is gearing up for their 2nd Annual Hike from the Heart 5K Walk, which aims to help fight poverty.

The walk will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sunday along the Detroit Riverwalk, located at 1340 Atwater in downtown Detroit.

Last year, MHS said it welcomed more than 300 walkers and raised over $145,000.

According to the organization, Pistons' legend Rick Mahorn will make an appearance and Pistons' Mascot Hooper will set off the crowd with some Zumba warm-up moves.

Detroit's own Mason will recognize over 100 volunteers as Pistons Game Changers and the Piston Dancers will be on hand to show of the region's youth some moves.

MHS said they honored to include Platinum Equity in the list of leading organizations that are investing in its future.

Michigan natives Tom and Holly Gores also contributed  to  this  year's Hike from the Heart. MHS said Gores is the Chairman and CEO of Platinum Equity, whose investments include Detroit-area companies Active Aero, Acument, Chassix, and Palace Sports & Entertainment.

Bryan Kelln, Partner, Platinum Equity, praised MHS for its mission to fight poverty and improve the well-being of underprivileged, hardworking people in Michigan.
