DETROIT -

Detroit police say a 4-year-old boy was the victim of a hit-and-run Wednesday evening when he ran out into the street for an ice cream truck in the 4000 block of Sturtevant Street near Dexter Avenue.

The boy was struck by an oncoming vehicle when he was leaving the ice cream truck. The driver of the vehicle first stopped but then drove away.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he is in temporary serious condition.

Police are searching for the driver.
