2 house fires break out in Warren; 1 person found fatally shot in home

WARREN, Mich. – Firefighters in Warren had their hands full Wednesday morning as two homes erupted into flames and prompted an investigation into the death of a man found in one of the homes.

The first fire was at a home on Menge Avenue, near I-696 and Ryan Road, at about 7:15 a.m.

Fire officials said the homeowner could smell the fire and was able to get everyone out of the home before the fire spread. One of the children has asthma and the smoke caused an asthma attack.

It appears the fire started in the garage. It is unclear how the fire started.

The second fire was at a home on La Salle Boulevard, near 8 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue, at about 8:15 a.m., where a fatal gunshot victim was found.

The man was found in the home with a gunshot wound to the neck. Authorities said a gun was found in the home.

It is unclear how the fire started.
