How much do you like "likes"?

Link between social media & self esteem

Do you count "Likes" on your Facebook page?

Many people feel a sense of self-esteem when they open Facebook to see their status or new profile picture has received more likes than expected. But a new study suggests that is not a positive sign.

The research was done by Cornell University. It looked at the link between self-esteem, purpose and social media. In the study, "purpose" was defined as having a "sense of ongoing, self-motivation, often driven by a desire to do things which benefit others."

According to the study, users getting more "Likes" on average also reported greater self-esteem.

However,  those with a high level of purpose showed - no - change in self-esteem no matter how many likes they received. Researchers said the group registering no change already felt more "comfortable" with themselves.
Bottom line: You shouldn't need "likes" to like yourself.
