DETROIT -

Southbound I-75 at Clay Road is now reopened after being shut down for nearly three hours.

At about 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning a state trooper was involved in the crash, along with two other vehicles.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Michigan State Police patrol vehicle was southbound on I-75 at Clark Street and was attempting to pull behind a vehicle that was involved in a previous traffic crash on the left shoulder.

As the trooper was travelling across the lanes of the freeway the patrol car was struck by a car travelling in the left lane. The patrol car was struck in the left front quarter panel and the force of the collision forced the patrol car into the original crash.

The trooper, who is assigned to the Metro Post, was knocked unconscious for several minutes and was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital for a head injury.

He is currently in good condition and is being held overnight for observation only.

There were no other injuries and the investigation is ongoing.
