Iconic Eastern Market hardware store closing after nearly 100 years

DETROIT – An Eastern Market staple is closing up shop after nearly 100 years in business.

Busy Bee Hardware, at the corner of Russell Street and Gratiot, is closing this summer after more than nine decades.

The store will sell the rest of its inventory before closing for good in July.

The family owned business first opened in 1918.

Store owner Richard Cobb told the Detroit News that failing health and the changing nature of Eastern Market are contributing factors.
