Inkster fire chief faces domestic violence charges

INKSTER, Mich. – The Inkster fire chief is facing two charges of domestic violence stemming from two separate incidents.

John D. Adams, 51, who is also the parks and rec director for Westland, was arrested Thursday. He was already on the radar of Bill Campbell, who runs the Westland Watchdogs Facebook page.

"A fire chief is a full-time position. So is a parks and rec director. How can you do both?" Campbell said. "I just think Westland needs to do a better job in its hiring practices."

Other citizens reacted to the news Monday night.

"(It's) time to clean house in Westland elected government," Lisa Seymour said. "In five days we have had a murder, flag disgrace, now this."

"These folks that work for the city just can't stay out of trouble," Meredith Van Wagoner said.

"Wow, another mark toward the city," said Cindy Gregoski. "I don't think we need this kind of example for our city."

Local 4 News spoke with Westland Mayor William Wild. He said he's disappointed in the charges but will let the legal process play out.

Adams has only been the full-time parks and rec director for a month and has a contract that runs through next February, but he can be fired with two weeks notice if, as the mayor says, it's in the city's best interest.

Adams next court appearance is June 10.
