Investigation into found body parts along SE Michigan continues

Various body parts discovered across China Township

CHINA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The investigation continues into a body found yesterday on Fred Moore Highway and Allington Road in China Township.

According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, at this point the body parts found are believed to be of one white male. An autopsy is scheduled for this afternoon at the St. Clair County Medical Examiner's Office.

A tip from a citizen led to the discovery of more evidence believed to be linked to the incident. Detectives from the Sheriff's Office were called to the entrance ramp to westbound I-94 from Fred Moore Highway shortly before 5:00 this morning. A bag was found there, containing clothing and charred paperwork. Detectives are checking the contents of the bag to determine any link to the body.

The incident began yesterday afternoon around 4:00, when a citizen called in a suspicious situation in the area of Allington Road and Fred Moore Highway. Deputies and detectives from the Sheriff's Office responded and discovered garbage bags containing body parts. While at the scene, a citizen told detectives that she had observed a mid-1990s SUV, possibly a GMC Jimmy or Chevrolet Trailblazer in the area, dumping what she thought was garbage out of the vehicle. The driver was described as a heavy set middle aged white female.

Members of the Michigan State Police Forensic Crime Lab assisted in evidence collection at the scene of the incident.
