Preliminary hearing for suspect in Jane Bashara murder case pushed back until June

Joe Gentz charged with murder in death Grosse Pointe Park mother

DETROIT – The preliminary examination for the man accused in the murder of  Grosse Pointe Park mother has been pushed back.

Joe Gentz is charged with murder in the death of Jane Bashara.

His hearing was supposed to be Friday, but will now be June 11. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said the move was to allow more time for a forensic center to complete their reports.

Bob Bashara's attorney has own theory

Jane Bashara's husband, Bob Bashara, has been named a person of interest in his wife's death. His attorney, David Griem, said he thinks there is another reason for Gentz's preliminary examination delay.

"I believe there are negotiations going on right now between the prosecutor's office and Joe Gentz's to try to reach plea resolution ... and probably sentence resolution for Mr. Gentz. And Mr. Gentz then would be used against Robert Bashara."

Bob Bashara's reputed mistress, Rachel Gillett, retained a personal protection order against Bob. Griem doesn't think that's not such a bad thing.

"Rachel and Mr. Bashara should be prohibited from having contact with each other," Griem said.

Grosse Pointe Park mother found dead in January

Jane Bashara was found dead in the back of her SUV in a Detroit alley on Jan. 25. She had been reported missing the night before.

Sources say Gentz has told police he was forced to kill the Grosse Pointe Park mother under the order of her husband, Bob Bashara.

Gentz is charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Bob Bashara has not been charged.
