DETROIT - An attorney for Joe Gentz, the man who pleaded guilty to the murder Grosse Pointe Park's Jane Bashara, wants to appeal his conviction.
After he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, Gentz sent a letter to Judge Vonda Evans saying prosecutors made promises to him they didn't keep and wanted to withdraw his plea.
But his attorney at the time, talked Gentz into withdrawing the letter.
Now, his appeals attorney wants Gentz to appeal and have the courts consider the letter he wrote.
Jane Bashara's body was found Jan 24, 2012, in her Mercedes-Benz in a Detroit alley. Gentz pleaded guilty to strangling her, but saying he did so at her husband's behest.
Bob Bashara is already serving up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to trying to hire someone to kill Gentz in jail. He's also facing murder charges in connection with his wife's death.
