Judge who was shot plans march against violence in Detroit

Terrence Berg shot outside his home in early March

DETROIT – U.S. District Judge Terrence Berg is planning a march on Good Friday as a protest to violence in Detroit and a call to build a city of love.

The march comes just weeks after Berg was shot outside his Detroit home. Police said two men approached Berg outside his home and one of them shot the judge in his leg before they fled in a dark sedan.

Berg said the most striking memory about the night of the shooting was how his neighbors heard a shot and yelling and no one hid in their homes. Instead they came running, including an ER doctor and friend who lives next door.

The FBI is offering $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of those men.

Berg is encouraging members of the community to join him in the Gesu Catholic Parish in the University District to march down Livernois Friday at 6 p.m.

Those who can't walk are encouraged to go to the church and wait for the group until they return. The event will end with a short prayer service.
