American Pharoah wins 141st Kentucky Derby

American Pharoah, who came to the starting gate as a 5-2 favorite, wins 141st Kentucky Derby with a strong stretch run.

The race gives trainer Bob Baffert his fourth Kentucky Derby win. It was jockey's Victor Espinoza third Kentucky Derby win.

Dortmund, another Baffert-trained horse, led much of the race but faded late to finish third. He was overtaken first by Firing Line, who finished second, and then American Pharoah.

American Pharoah will head to the Preakness on May 16 for the second leg of the Triple Crown. The Belmont Stakes is scheduled for June 6. 

No horse has won the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978.
