DETROIT - A Detroit municipal contractor and friend of Kwame Kilpatrick who's on trial alongside the ex-mayor in a federal corruption case has asked for a delay in his retrial in an earlier bid-rigging case.
Bobby Ferguson's lawyer filed a motion Friday in Detroit federal court saying that the trial now under way is taking much longer than expected and might not end until late February. Ferguson says that could make it hard for him to defend himself in the retrial.
Jurors in the bid-rigging case now are scheduled to start filling out questionnaires March 1, and the trial is set to start April 2.
The first trial in the $12 million bid-rigging case for Ferguson and two others ended in June when the jury deadlocked.
