Korean War vet robbed in front yard of St. Clair Shores home

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – An 80-year-old Korean War veteran was robbed outside his home Thursday morning, police say.

Harold Mackey was doing lawn work when when he was attacked from the rear by the robber. The black male suspect struck him in the back forcing him to the ground and ripped his wallet from his rear pants pocket. The assailant fled from the scene on foot to his vehicle that was parked on Grant.

"I just saw a shadow and boom I got hit in the back and down I went on my belly," said Mackey.

A 55-year-old woman saw the man hop in a gray GM Envoy parked around the corner. While attempting to flee the witness, the suspect vehicle may have damaged his tires, wheels or front suspension.

Mackey will needed medical attention for injuries sustained as a result of the assault during the robbery.

Suspect was described as a black male 20 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, 200 to 220 pounds, wearing a plaid shirt with khaki shorts. He was seen driving a gray 2005 to 2009 GMC Envoy 4-door, possibly a Denali, with chrome rims.

"I don't know what to say to him. I can swear but I just hope they get him," said Mackey.
