Kwame Kilpatrick's father, Bernard, released from federal prison

73-year-old moved to halfway house

DALLAS, Texas – Bernard Kilpatrick, father of former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, was released from federal prison Wednesday after serving 10 months for a tax charge conviction in the Kilpatrick corruption case.

The 73-year-old is currently in a halfway house after being released from the low security prison near Dallas. The halfway house is being monitored by the Dallas Community Corrections Office. He was sentenced to 15 months in prison in January.

Bernard Kilpatrick's official release isn't until Feb. 6, but he can spend the last six months of his sentence in a halfway house, according to law. This helps those that are close to being released search for jobs or be with family.
